Identification
Introduction
The drugs listed are mostly benzodiazepines. The exceptions are Zolpidem, Zopiclone and Zaleplon which have a similar way of working to the benzodiazepines.
Most of the drugs are, or have been, known by a brand name and a generic name, so both are given here. This table is applicable to the UK.
Tranquillisers and Sleeping Pills
The following terms all refer to benzodiazepines (benzos for short): tranquillisers,
tranx, sleeping pills, hypnotics, anxiolitics.
